In 1979 he moved on to a major carrier in Atlantic Canada and continued to train long haul drivers. Jerry eventually started his own trucking company in 1984. Watching the growth in the industry and seeing first hand the need for professionally trained long haul drivers, Jerry opened the first truck driver training school in New Brunswick in 1989. The school has grown throughout the years and has four locations with eighteen instructors. It was the first school in Canada to become accredited to teach the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council's "Earning Your Wheels". Jerry worked with the CTHRC (Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council) for a number of years to develop a national training standard for Canada. He is a member of the NBACC (New Brunswick Association of Career Colleges). Jerry was appointed by the minister of Advanced Education and Labour to sit as a director on the Board of the New Brunswick Occupation Training Corporation. G.W. Driver Training offers commercial truck driver training from one day refresher course to a twelve week internship program. In addition, evaluations and upgrading programs are available for trucking companies on a regular basis. All our programs are approved by the Department of Advanced Education & Labour and the Motor Vehicle Branch of New Brunswick. All instructors are registered with both departments and licensed by the Motor Vehicle Branch.
